The Art Expression workshops communicate the value of the arts to the quality of life by helping veterans discover or rediscover a passion for something that can be beneficial in theirs and their families’ lives. Art is a tool veterans can use to communicate how and what they feel without speaking, something that can be difficult for anyone but especially difficult for those who have experienced trauma.

Art Expressions is a series of workshop with one major goal. Helping veterans discover and experience the joy of expressing themselves through the arts, providing the opportunity for them to discover a medium that will ultimately help them heal.
The No Limits Arts Theatre will host a series of workshops specifically for Veterans and their spouses. Entitled, Art Expressions, the purpose of the program is to serve local veterans through the arts. The workshops will offer different mediums of art giving the veterans the opportunity to find a medium that speaks to them and that brings them joy, including a special workshop in sign language. The workshops will be held at VFW Post 6796 and other venues in the community where we can bring art to veterans.
The Art Expressions workshops will have a tremendous impact on the veterans in our community because they will provide opportunities for participants to rediscover old passion or learn new ones. Veterans will be able to encourage and support one another in a fun and welcoming environment with others who can relate to their journey.
According to Arts Deployed: An Action Guide for the Arts & Military Program, there are five top reasons the arts are good for the body and mind.
1. The arts promote socialization.
2. The arts foster positive, meaningful relationships.
3. The arts are an effective, alternative means of communication.
4. The arts enhance the quality of life of individuals, communities, and the greater society.
Our goal is to provide arts instruction and facilitate artmaking for enjoyment, relaxation, inspiration and emotional healing. We hope that by attending one of our workshops, veterans will discover their own artistic interests and talents, fostering new outlets to express themselves.
Over the years NLAT has developed relationships with various local artists and other art-based organizations. We will be collaborating with them to provide artists to teach the workshops so that Art Expressions workshops will be a year-round program. NLAT goal is to bring art to veterans. The VFW Post 6796 is allowing us to use their space every Tuesday night to host the workshop. It is our hope to reach as many veterans as we can and by collaborating with the VFW and other places that serve veterans, we are certain we will reach many.
